The Cape Fox Dancers and storyteller Roger Fernandes visited Highland Terrace to teach third graders about Northwest Coast Native Tlingit Tradition of dance, music, and storytelling. Third graders wore traditional clothing and danced together to the music. |

We've finished another successful year of the HT Chess Club. Many thanks to Steve Pollak for leading the club, and to our ChessMates instructor who helped school the children in openings, mid game tactics, and the intricacies of the endgame. Thanks too to the club parents who contributed time as well. |

The Highland Terrace PTA and Library welcomed sports biographer Greg Brown for a full day visit to our school. Mr. Brown captivated students with his process of writing biographies on successful athletes as well as his stories about their lives. Highland Terrace students have a long history of raising salmon in our library's salmon tank. The Highland Terrace community appreciates all of the time and energy that Mr. Ed Barnes has volunteered to teach students how to raise and release the salmon into Boeing Creek. Congratulations to Mrs. Cameron and her fantastic math team who competed in Math Olympiad along with more than 500 Shoreline students. The team of Aden Nevler, Alex Payton, Liem Nguyen and Hayden Streitberger took home a 5th Place Team medal. Mathew Armstrong, Garrett Benofsky and 4th grader Devin Barrett took a 6th Place Team medal. Nice work against some very tough competitors! |

Highland Terrace fielded a small team to compete in the Meridian Park Elementary Chess Tournament this past Saturday, Jan. 13th at Meridian Park. Aden Nevler, Alex Payton, Joe Schermer and Violet Schermer all faced a large group of tough competitors on a snowy Saturday. Joe Schermer came home with a 10th place medal from amongst the 4th graders. The combined team score of Aden, Alex and Joe put Highland Terrace in 7th place in the 4-6th grade category. Good luck and nice job competitors. |

Sixth graders help younger students make wise purchases at the Student Store. Student Store is open during scheduled times at lunch recess. All proceeds from student store help support ASB funded activities. |
