Kellogg Athletics 2009-2010

Welcome to the 2009-2010 Kellogg interscholastic athletic year. Athletic Packets are available online (to the left) in the main office beginning August 10th. Please stop by and pick up an athletic packet if you are interested in turning out for a sport. Return forms to the Kellogg Office at least one week prior to the start of the season. We cannot guarantee a student will be cleared for the first practice on time unless all the paperwork is into the office by this date.

* a cut sport – students will try out before teams are decided

Tryouts will be immediately after school in the gym on the following days:
Girl’s Volleyball - Nov. 4, 6, 10, 13, 17                     Boy’s Basketball - Nov. 5, 9, 12, 16, 18

Tryouts/practices are until 4:45pm each day. There are activity buses available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to transport athletes home after tryouts/practices. Athletes are responsible for making their own transportation arrangements for Mondays and Fridays.

Students that have already participated in a sport this school year just need to fill out an updated Student Athletic Emergency Card and pay the tryout fee.

General Expectations
The following expectations apply to student – athletes throughout the season of sport, and will be carefully considered by coaches in team decision-making:

Academics: The student-athlete must pass 5 classes the previous trimester to be eligible. The student-athlete must be passing all classes to remain eligible for competition.

Attendance: Attendance at practices and games is instrumental in the development of teamwork, skills, and knowledge of the sport. Must attend a minimum of 50% of school day to practice or compete.

Skill/Physical Fitness: The student-athlete should demonstrate teamwork, sports skills, and on-going effort towards maintaining physical fitness.

Citizenship: The student-athlete will demonstrate interpersonal and social skills, including sportsmanship, cooperative learning, dealing with adversity, and positive self-esteem. They are expected to follow all school and team rules, and respect other students and staff.

Sportsmanship: The student-athlete should demonstrate a positive attitude, be encouraging, and respect their own team as well as the opposing team, referees and officials.

Athletes cannot participate in interscholastic athletics without ALL paperwork and fees turned in. The athletic packet contains the following items:

- Physical Examination completed and turned in before athlete can participate; use the Shoreline School District 24-month physical form please.
- Code of Conduct signed by both parent/guardian and student.
- Parental Permission signed by both parent/guardian and student.
- Insurance Card indicating insurance (need signed insurance waiver) or purchase school insurance.
- Athletic Emergency Card completely filled out-a new one for each season.
- Associated Student Body (ASB) fee paid. It is $20 cash or check made out to Kellogg Middle School.
- Athletic Participation Fee will be $20 per sport, checks made payable to Kellogg Middle School
This fee is required and covers participation for the current season. It does not guarantee playing time.
No refunds will be approved for students who are dropped for athletic code violations or who quit after the first interscholastic contest. For cut sports - $10 intramural fee to try-out for a cut sport team (due before athletes can tryout)/$10 more if you make the team (This fee must be paid NO LATER THAN one week before the first interscholastic game to be eligible to play on time).


Students needing financial assistance should contact a school administrator, counselor, or coach.
