Heat is a wonderful book by Mike Lupica. I would call this book a realistic fiction/ fantasy. The main character is a brave boy named Michael Arroyo, a 12-year-old baseball player and fan. With the scene set in New York, Michael lives in an apartment, which is in the shadows of Yankee Stadium. He also lives wit his brother Carlos. They recently moved from Cuba, don’t have a dad or a mom, and are struggling to pay the bills. Since Carlos isn’t 18 yet, they have to keep a low profile, because if they get caught, they will have to be separated. Michael has a best friend, who every one calls Manny. But at one game, they meet a girl named Ellie, just like me! She and Michael become friends immediately. She also turns out to be El Grande’s oldest daughter, but they don’t know that until later. El Grande is Michael’s baseball hero. I would recommend this book to whoever is adventurous, and whoever likes baseball. I rated this book a 5 out of 5.
