Briarcrest School Goals

School Goals for 2008-2009

School S.M.A.R.T. Goal for MATH: 

Grades 1, 2, 3, and 5 will use DOMA at the beginning of the year to provide baseline data and to inform instruction, in January to assess student growth and further inform instruction, and lastly, in June to assess whether or not students have either met grade level standards in math or made one year’s growth.

Grades 4 and 6 will use DOMA in September to determine placement in Title I Math, and at the end of each trimester, thereafter to monitor student progress and inform instruction.

School S.M.A.R.T. Goal for READING: 

K-6 teachers will administer Shoreline Reading Assessments and the QRI 4x year.           

 • 60% of K and first grade students not at benchmark at the beginning of the year will improve to the strategic or benchmark category on DIBELS.  (K: Letter Naming Fluency; 1st: Phoneme Segmentation Fluency; Nonsense Word Fluency

• 80% of BC 2nd graders will maintain or improve scores of 2 or above with increasing difficulty of text on

DRA measures

• 60% of 3rd – 6th graders not at fluency standard in September will improve fluency equal to one year’s growth on a QRI or DIBELS measure (3rd +30; 4th +25; 5th + 20; 6th + 20)

• 60% of 3rd – 6th graders not at standard in September in comprehension (<75%) will improve comprehension by 20% or

meet standard on a QRI assessment, or improve by 50 lexiles on the SRI.

• Level 0-1 ELL students will be given the same reading assessments but their growth will not be recorded on classroom

data summaries. All ELL students will take the WLPT state mandated tests.

School S.M.A.R.T. Goal for WRITING: 

By the end of October, K-6 teachers will have created writing curriculum map drafts.  Teachers will re-evaluate and finalize at the end of 2008-2009, and post them on the district website for the 2009-2010 school year.
