This unit introduces some of the ideas and techniques involved in estimating. Estimating is a quick and useful tool when objects are too numerous to count, too long to measure, or too heavy to weigh. The disadvantage of estimating is that sometimes a small inaccuracy in the beginning of an estimation can lead to a very large inaccuracy at the end. This unit encourages students to think carefully about what they are trying to estimate and to consider all the factors that might influence that estimate.
