The lessons and activities listed below are offered to members. Some lessons and activities are designed as units. Participants can start any time and continue week after week. Other offerings are one time learning events. The recommended grade level is identified but any student may participate as interest and ability dictate. If you have ideas for lessons and activities, pass your suggestion on to Ron, Trudi. Some activities may require special materials. You may stop by HEE to pick them up, or request us to mail them to you.

Cultural Literacy

Grades 6-8

Provides daily review (10 to 20 minutes) of essential skills. In addition, this activity gives students repeated opportunities to develop and to practice oral language and proofreading skills. This will not only improve your child's language skills but will also enhance general cultural literacy.

Participants will read the book Sign of the Beaver, Treasure Island, The Pushcart War, The Hobbit, The Black Pearl, Lilies of the Field, A Wrinkle in Time, or Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. respond to questions and complete related assignments at the direction of Mr. Hayes via email.
