Connecting to the server

Directions for Backing Up your School Folder to the Server

 

  1. Highlight your school folder.
  2. Go to File > Get Info or apple i to find out the size of your folder.
  3. Back up your school folder to the server only if it is less than 500MB.  If it is more than 500 MB, you will need to make choices about what you back up.
  4. Click on your desktop so that the finder menu appears.
  5. Click Go > Connect to Server (apple k).
  6. Type in your graduation year (2010 = 8th grade students, 2011 = 7th grade students).  Click Connect.
  7. Type in your last name, first name (i.e. Simpson, Bart). 
  8. Type in your password.  This is the month and the day of your four-digit birthday. (i.e. if you were born on April 14, your password is 0414).
  9. Select 2010 (8th grade students) or 2011 (7th grade students).
  10. Choose the letter that represents the first letter of your last name.
  11. Find your server folder.
  12. Drag your school folder into your server folder.
  13. Your teacher will check to see if the back up was successful.

 

It is your responsibility to back up all of your schoolwork to your server folder.  Please do not back up personal items.  Your server folder will be monitored.  If it is larger than the 500MB limit, you will be asked to clean it out.
