Lake Forest Park Library Mission and Policies

Mission Statement

The mission of the Lake Forest Park Elementary Library is to provide services and resources that enable all students and staff to acquire information literacy skills that will help them succeed at the school and in lifelong pursuits.

Goals
The Library's goals include emphasis on information literacy, reading, research, and use of technology. Information literacy is taught using the tenets of the Big6 (grades 3-6) and Super3 (grades K-2)--an approach that involves a step-by-step process of critical thinking and problem solving.

Policies and Procedures

The library and the attached computer lab are open for use from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each school day. All students have access to the technology provided by the library and learn its use through their weekly library instructional classes and lab classes. Students visit the library at least once per week and as many times as any individual student needs to use the library.
  • Level 1 Zone--soft voices to accommodate other classes and students studying in or adjacent the library
  • Number of checkouts
    • Kindergarten - 4th grade = 5 items
    • 5th grade = 6 items
    • 6th grade = 7 items
  • Responsibility for the care of books and other resources is expected student behavior as explained in the Lake Forest Park Promise.

Adjacent to the library is a computer lab where students have regularly scheduled classes. Applications available on lab computers include Accelerated Reader, Appleworks, Inspiration, Internet, KidPix, Kidspiration, Microsoft Office, and Type to Learn. These applications offer students the opportunity to create databases, spreadsheets, and multi-media presentations; develop keyboarding skills; draw; read and research on the Internet; test their comprehension and knowledge of library books; and, word process. Note: In order to use the Internet, students and parents must have a signed "Responsible Use Form" recorded in the school office and in the student's permanent file.
