Sixth grade students at Lake Forest Park have the opportunity to explore a wide range of content and ideas, as they further develop the skills that will lead them to a successful future in middle school and beyond.  Students will refine their organizational skills and gain academic independence as maturing young individuals.  Each student is issued his/her own laptop at school as a tool for learning. Technology is incorporated throughout the school day.

In Social Studies, students will explore the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome and China while making comparisons to our modern day societies.  The science curriculum includes astronomy, simple machines such as levers and pulleys, and a fun-filled unit on models and designs.

Students in sixth grade will read a variety of genres including fantasy, historical fiction, poetry and biography that are carefully matched to his/her reading level.

Our writing program includes the study of a wide range of forms, including narrative, poetry, exposition, explanation, recount and report.  Students will exit sixth grade with the ability to comfortably write a five-paragraph essay and independently work through the writing process.

Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) is the math curriculum students will work with in grades 6, 7 and 8.  The goals of this math program are to help students develop the necessary mathematical knowledge and skills as defined by the new Washington state math standards. Students will also be able to define and solve problems while making connections among mathematical concepts.
