Dear Lake Forest Park Parent/Guardian:

I hope this letter finds you and your student/s well and in the process of “gearing-up” for another school year.  The staff is looking forward to working with Lake Forest Park students and families in the upcoming 2008-2009 school year.

Class assignment letters will be mailed out the last week of August. As indicated in the class assignment information, classroom placement is a complex process where many factors are taken into consideration.  At this point in time, all of our classes are full, and any classroom shifts would require a change in another student’s schedule.  Serving the needs of your student is our number one priority, and communicating any questions and concerns that you may have to your child’s teacher helps us to be aware of any factors that may affect their ability to learn in school.  I also want to be sure that you are aware that we will try very hard not to make changes to a student’s schedule once the school year starts; however, there may be a circumstance that requires us to move students if for some unanticipated reason our numbers change.  This is not something that we can know until the students actually walk through the door during that first week of school.

As is the case each year, we have some new teaching faces at LFP.  Kim Stockamp joins us from Brookside to teach our second ADK.  With the retirement of Mrs. Johnson, Sharon Ridge joins us as our new second grade teacher.  Sara Carver (from Briarcrest) and Vicky Frank (from Highland Terrace) are teaching a shared fourth grade class.  Finally, we are very excited to welcome our new nurse, Susan Hoverson, who has done a lot of substituting in the building in the past.  We feel fortunate to have such wonderful new staff members.

The work done on the building this summer is a wonderful improvement in the physical space of our school.  The gym/lunchroom has a beautiful new floor, and the portables have been replaced with a new modular building that is ready for both our orchestra and before/after-school daycare programs.  Both of these areas provide high quality learning environments for our students and overall school community.

We hope that you will join our families at our PTA-sponsored family picnic from 12:30-1:30 on the playground on Tuesday, September 2, followed by a meet-your-teacher open house from 1:30 to 2:30.  Our fall curriculum night is scheduled for Thursday, September 18.   We look forward to working with you and your student/s during the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,

Linda A. Butler
