Writing is a wonderful process that helps your child clearly express thoughts and communicate them to others. I hope to substantially increase your child’s writing skills this year. It is exciting to see your child grow, develop, and progress in such a critical area, and to compare what your child can accomplish at the beginning and end of our nine months together.

We will have lessons and practice in a wide variety and of writing topics and skills. These will include proper grammar, sentence and paragraph formation, applied in persuasive, procedural, and explanatory writing forms. I will provide rubrics that will explain to your child how each form will be evaluated. Of course, writing is also embedded into our social studies, mathematics, and science activities.

Your child will be provided sufficient time to complete most assignments in class. However, some students find it necessary to complete some work at home to keep up with the class. For lengthy assignments I will send notices home advising you of where your child’s work stands in relation to the class, with a request that you sign and return the notice so I know you have received this information and can help your child succeed in his or her assignments.
