Activity Sampler- Twice a year, during conference seek, the PTA sponsors activities for students from 11:50 - 3:30.  This position would entail organizing activities for approximately 40 students over a three day period.  Volunteers will be needed to help run the activities and monitor the students.  This is a budgeted event.

Back To School Dinner- This event is held the first month of school.  The chairperson(s) is responsible for organizing volunteers and the evenings events to make this attractive to the community.

Book Fair- North City Book Fairs are held twice a year.  Committee members coordinate all aspects of the fair with the help of the school librarian.  North City can earn free books and/or book credits with Scholastic Book Fairs.

Family Services/Community Outreach- District sponsored community resource for families in need.  Help coordinate the collection of needed items throughout the year to donate to The Works.  Helps recruit volunteers to help sort food at an annual Food Drive  held at Kellogg Middle School. Each school in Shoreline participates in this activity.

Fundraising- A variety of fundraisers are scheduled for different times of the year to earn profits, which in turn pay for the cost of events that are sponsored by the North City PTA. 

 

Volunteers are needed for each of the fundraisers to prepare packets, tally orders, and check the money received with the orders.  When the filled orders come in they need to be checked and distributed.

Grant Writing- This position involves researching the Grant notebook at the Shoreline Center, gathering deadline information and making copies of grant requirement and sharing this information with the board contact.

Heritage Festival– This chairperson is responsible for co-coordinating multicultural activities and events that take place in May.  This may involve communicating with teachers, committee volunteers, community members, and PTA board members.  This committee begins work in October of each school year.

 Legislative Representative- This position involves being a resource and voice on policy issues affecting children in Washington State and the Shoreline School District.  The chairperson(s) will be asked to attend the Legislative Assembly on October 13, 14 in Yakima, Washington and attend Focus Day in late January/early February 2007 in Olympia.  There are many state and local resources to help with the success of this position.

Membership- This committee is responsible for helping North City PTA reach its goal of 100% membership.  This will include membership registration distribution, gathering of funds, and membership data entry.  Year long commitment with one membership drive in the fall and monthly membership follow up.

Nominating Committee- It is the task of the Nominating Committee to recognize and recruit candidates for the elected leadership of North City Elementary PTA.  The nominating committee is to consist of at least 3 members from a list of 5 or more nominated from the floor. The nominating committeeŐs major role and responsibility is to nominate the best-qualified candidate(s) for each role.  The committee will begin in January and commence in April.

PTA Newsletter- The North City PTA monthly newsletter that is distributed via kid mail.  This task includes compiling, entering, proofreading, and printing each monthly edition.  Requirements may include attending monthly PTA meetings and internet/email access.

Rebates Program Coordinator- This person contacts local business including AlbertsonŐs and Thriftway regarding cash back program.  This involves Thriftway receipts being complied and redeemed for cash and to ensure AlbertsonŐs rebate information is available in the school office, PTA portable, monthly newsletter and at each PTA event.

Reflections- Reflections is a district supported art project.  This committee will introduce the yearŐs theme to the classrooms and distribute district information regarding this event.   They will also collect and present the art pieces at a school reception.  This will run from September through January each school year.

School Banking- This is a weekly, two-hour commitment where you and another volunteer accept student deposits, total deposit funds (including data entry on Washington Mutual website) and deposit funds at the Lake Forest Park Washington Mutual Bank branch.  This is a September through June commitment.

 

Three to five volunteers are needed to help this committee run efficiently.

Room Parent Liaison– The Room Parent coordinator is essential in the relationship between Teachers and Parents in helping plan class parties, recruiting volunteers for certain school/PTA functions and other classroom activities (fieldtrips, teacher support, etc.)

 

A minimum of (1) one room parent for each classroom is ideal.  PTA will provide an informational meeting.

Sunshine Committee- This is a great opportunity for volunteers who want to help from home.  This position entails writing and sending (via kid mail) thank you notes for the previous months PTA sponsored activities/events.  This committee has monies provided by the PTA as approved by the PTA Board. You will also need to find volunteers to provide treats for some PTA sponsored events as well as 4 General PTA Meetings.
