Expectations
Dear Parkwood Families,

I want to thank our wonderful staff, hardworking students, and supportive parents for such a smooth start to this school year. I am really enjoying my visits to classrooms and the playground, where students are excited about their learning, enjoying their teachers and classmates, and contributing so positively to our school climate.   Beginning at our opening day assembly and continuing throughout the year, our staff is working together to communicate and reinforce our four school-wide expectations:

•    Show kindness and respect to everyone.

•    Take responsibility for your work and actions.

•    Make safe choices.

•    Give your best effort everyday.

As a staff, we are developing lots of ways to celebrate and recognize positive student behavior and accomplishments. For example, your child may be honored with a compliment from our school compliment jar—we read these compliments over the intercom every Friday and those students receive a pencil as a token of our appreciation. In addition, students may receive a Positive Person Slip from any staff member who sees a student doing something positive for our school or other students/staff—or simply having a positive attitude! Also, your student may be invited to join me for “Principal’s Lunch Bunch” because a staff member has observed achievement, improvement, or positive citizenship. These students simply have an opportunity to eat lunch with me and share their accomplishments with me!

Another way that our staff will be able to reinforce appropriate school behavior, is by giving a “Rule Reminder” to a student who has made an unsafe, unkind, or irresponsible choice. Usually a Rule Reminder is issued if a child has made the same negative choice repeatedly, or the choice caused us great concern (even if it only occurred one time). You will find a copy of this Rule Reminder in this newsletter. (Please note: This Rule Reminder replaces the Warning Report used previously. )

Please remember that frequent communication between home and school, along with parent participation and involvement in your child’s education, is the key to your child’s success. If your child is having difficulties following school expectations, we will let you know! Likewise, we will communicate your child’s successes! And as usual, please feel free to call me when you have questions or concerns.

Thank you for the support you give us as we work to provide an outstanding public education for all kids! And thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!

Sincerely,

Laura M. Ploudré
