Library CalendarMs. FreemanJoanna Freeman has been the librarian at Ridgecrest since 2002, when she received her master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Washington. Prior to that she was a 5th and 6th grade teacher in Eastern Washington and Seattle. Ms. Freeman is interested in getting kids excited about going to library and reading books. She is also passionate about the use of technology in information literacy, teaching kids how to find and use information appropriately and effectively. MissionThe Ridgecrest Library/Learning Resource Center will:
To be successful, the librarian, classroom teachers, and students will work collaboratively to use information and learn together. PoliciesCheckout and Responsibility for BooksAll students at Ridgecrest are expected to check out library books, including Kindergarten. Kindergarten students check out books after a month of library orientation, including teaching students how to use the library and how to take care of books. All other students may check out books according to their grade level, their grade plus two books (e.g. 3rd grade may check out five books at a time). Student may check out with one or two overdue books but overdue notices will be sent home regularly and students with many overdue books may find their checkout privileges revoked. The goal of the Ridgecrest Library is for all students to check out books regularly. Students who lose or damage books are responsible for paying for the book or replacing it with the same title in new or nearly new condition. If this will be a hardship or parents would like the student to take personal responsibility for the book, please contact Ms. Freeman for opportunities for students to volunteer in the library to work off a book fine. Library UseClasses come to the library for one scheduled period each week. Information skills and love of literature are the focus of lessons, usually in context with the curriculum, as these are important lifelong skills for everyone. Students are encouraged to use the library any time for research or reading. Voices should be kept to a reasonably quiet level so as not to bother others using the space. The library may be available for other activities, depending upon activities already scheduled. Please ask Ms. Freeman before scheduling activities in the library to be certain there are no conflicts with the library schedule, either during or after school. |
