100th Day of School Activities

Create Word Searches and Crosswords - Use your own list of words and this website will generate a word search or crossword with those words, complete with some fun clip art.

TeachersFirst Content Matrix - TeachersFirst is a collection of original content, Internet resources, and lesson plans. Each resource is selected and reviewed by teachers, and then resources are grouped by subject and grade level.

Kids Design Network - KDN, a free program from the DuPage Children's Museum, teaches elementary school students problem-solving skills. Students are given an engineering challenge (building an alarm for their bedroom door, for example) and design and build a gadget to solve the problem.

Art EAdventures - This website's interactive online games are for teachers and students. In these activities, you'll discover how great artists worked while learning tips and techniques for creating your own art. Includes lessons on Leonardo, line, color, architecture and more.

Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site - Excellent resources for specific books and curriculum units, organized by an author and educator.

Comprehension Strategies (from Kendra Wagner)

* Mosaic of Thought Tools - The "motherlode" of strategy charts and assessment forms, etc. Over 75 documents, written by a variety of teachers who are working intimately with the Mosaic of Thought strategies.

* Mosaic of Thought - Children's Literature Correlations - This website correlates specific children's literature with Mosaic of Thought strategies. Choose a strategy and it will present a booklist generated from their database.

* Reading Strategy Posters and Charts - Twenty-five posters & charts related to each specific reading strategy, easy to download as either Adobe PDF or MS Word documents.

* Processes in Comprehension - The complex processes in comprehension are divided into 3 categories: vocabulary, text comprehension, and teacher preparation and comprehension strategies (much like the National Reading Panel Report). Included are useful websites where students can practice their use of comprehension strategies with fiction and non-fiction texts at a variety of reading levels.

* Critical Reading.com - This is mostly a high school and college website on Critical Reading and Effective Writing.
