The School Day

Morning Arrival

8:15-8:30 AM Arrive and line up at the outside door of the classroom. The custodian will raise the flag at 8:15 AM to signal the campus is open. Students should plan their departure from home to assure that they arrive no earlier than 8:15 AM but no later than 8:30 AM.

8:30 AM Teachers open their classrooms. Students put away their coats, lunches, ect. and prepare to begin the day.

8:35 AM Students arriving after the second bell are counted as tardy!

Afternoon Dismissal

2:55 PM Students are dismissed and may exit the building using the route that best matches their destination.

Parents who pick up their children at 2:55 PM need to designate a pre-determined place to meet OUTSIDE THE BUILDING.

Tardies

  • Punctuality, personal responsibility, and consideration for others are behaviors we value and encourage at Ridgecrest. It is important that students arrive on time and ready to begin the school day. Late arrivals disrupt the classroom, add congestion to the office, and cause the individual to miss an important part of the day.

Attendance

  • Because every day of school is important, regular attendance is encouraged. However, a child should not be sent to school if he or she shows signs of illness.
  • Parents should call the school between 7:30AM and 8:35AM if their child will be absent or tardy.
  • We practice a "safe arrival" policy of notifying parents of any child who is absent if we have not been contacted.
  • The school day begins at 8:30 AM when the teachers admit children into the classroom.
  • A student is considered tardy or late if he or she arrives in the classroom after the second bell at 8:35 AM. Punctuality is expected. Late arrivals disrupt the whole class and after the third tardy students will be required to make up the time.
  • Attendance is taken by the teacher each day. Absences and tardies become part of a student's permanent record.
  • Washington State law recognizes illness or injury as the only valid excuse for an absence.
  • Special requests to take children out of school for family trips or a few days before or after a holiday are discouraged. There are family circumstances, however, which merit special consideration. Such requests should be made in writing and directed to the school office.
