Process

Alphabetize your citations (A to Z) by the first word. If the first word is 'A,' 'An,' or 'The,' alphabetize by the first letter of the second word. Example: A New World. You would alphabetize by the ‘N’ in ‘New’

Format your document and begin typing

Format

The lines are not numbered.

Double space the entire document.

Hanging Indent: the second and succeeding lines of each citation indented 1/2 inch under the first line. Begin each new citation with the first line being flush with the left margin. The images below show how to create a hanging indent in a Word document.

Before

Click on the bottom triangle and drag to the 1/2” mark. As you type your sentences will automatically indent to the 1/2” mark. When you press return/enter to start a new line it will automatically begin flush with the left margin.

After

Begin the annotation (2 sentences) immediately after the citation (author, title, etc.). Do not begin the annotations on a new line.
