Above is a pie graph showing that most people killed in alcohol-related crashes are drunk, and of those who are drunk drivers die the most.

-About 3 in every 10 Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives.

-Traffic crashes are the greatest single cause of death for every age between the ages of 6 and 27. Almost half of these fatalities are because of alcohol.

-Alcohol and other drugs are a factor in 45 percent of all fatal vehicle accidents. They are also a factor in one-fifth of all accidents involving injury.

-In 2003, 17,013 people in the U.S. were killed in alcohol-related automobile crashes, representing 40% of all traffic-related deaths.

-There are other drugs besides alcohol (like marijuana and cocaine) that are involved in about 18% of motor vehicle driver deaths. These other drugs are generally mixed with alcohol.

-Among drunk drivers involved in deadly vehicle crashes, those with 0.08 BAC or higher were nine times more likely to have a conviction in the past for Driving While Impaired (DWI) than drivers who had not consumed alcohol.
