Questions based on information which can be found in the Shorecrest Registration Guide for 2009-2010.


1. Which three classes meet 7th period (after school)?
Work-Based Learning (pg. 21),
Live Production Video (pp. 18/29), and
Online Credit Recovery (“often offered during 7th period”) (pg. 67)

2. What class will help you improve your Excel and PowerPoint skills?
Computer Applications 1 (pg. 20)

3. Which class suggests that colored pencils may be used?
Cartooning (pg. 16)

4. This Shorecrest class can fulfill the .5 cr. Health requirement.
Interpersonal Relationships, a.k.a. Adult Living (pg. 24)

5. This series of classes incorporates both freehand drawing and 3-D computer modeling.
Drafting Technology 1,
Drafting Technology 2, and
Advanced Drafting Technology (pg. 25)

6. What are the three new classes in this Registration Guide?
They are easily found by looking for the special NEW symbol:
Digital Photography 2 (pp. 18/30),
Photojournalism (pp. 18/30), and
Environmental Science (pg. 55)

7. In which class description is the word “Taco” mentioned?
Web Design 1/HTML (pg. 28)

8. Shorecrest has a Community Service graduation requirement. How many of the 60 required hours must be completed in the sophomore year?
Thirty hours (pp. 7, 8)

9. What is the number of English credits required for graduation?
Three and a half credits (pp. 6/7, 34)

10. How many years of a world language must be taken to graduate from Shorecrest?
None. While two or more years of a world language is an entrance requirement for most four-year colleges, it is NOT a Shorecrest graduation requirement. All world language courses taken at Shorecrest count as Elective credit. (This would be found on pg. 6/7 if it was a graduation requirement)

11. Which six Music courses can be taken by students who have no prior music background?
Intro to Music,
Beginning Piano Lab,
Beginning Guitar,
Pipe Band,
Men’s Vocal Ensemble, and
Treble Choir (pp. 46, 47, 49)

12. Besides English, how many languages are spoken by Shorecrest students?
Thirty-four (pg. 41, in box)

13. What level of math are most freshmen in the Class of 2013 expected to complete by graduation?
Integrated Math 3. They must also complete at least three credits of math while in high school. Previous graduating classes were required to complete two credits of math, of any level. (pg. 42)

14. Of the several ways to earn college credit while in high school, which one is free to the student?
College Tech Prep, which previously had an annual college registration fee, is now free to students. (pp. 12, 19)
(AP requires payment for the AP exam, College in the High School requires payment to the college, and Running Start requires students to pay for textbooks, college fees, etc.)

15. If you are fascinated by the subject of “black holes,” what class could you take to learn more about them?
Astronomy/UW Astronomy 101 (pg. 55)

16. Which courses may be taken to fulfill the 10th grade Social Studies requirement?
World History 1 & 2, or AP European History (pg. 57). (This requirement was added several years ago; there was no required Social Studies class for students in the Class of 2009 and earlier.)

17. Otis took School Service twice. May he take it again?
If Otis received a passing grade for both semesters of School Service, then he is not eligible to take it again. Only one credit may be earned in School Service during high school. (pg. 67)

18. What World Languages were offered for 1964-65 that are no longer available for study at Shorecrest?
German, Latin, and Russian. But notice that Japanese, currently available at Shorecrest, was not offered in 1964-65. (pg. 63)

19. Which course that is required for graduation for the Class of 2010, will not be required for any future graduating classes?
Senior History. Except for the graduating Class of 2011, future graduating classes will take Senior Civics as a required grade 12 social-studies class. (pp. 6/7)

20. Otis took Drama in 10th grade. Does this complete his Speech graduation requirement?
No. Drama taken in 10th grade can fulfill a Fine Arts or Elective requirement; only students in grades 11 and 12 may take Drama for Speech (or English elective) graduation credit. (pp. 35, 38)

16-17 correct (80-89%): Great! You can be counted on to know the answer to most questions about Registration.

14-15 correct (70-79%): Pretty good….but you should double-check your Registration to make sure you get it all correct.

12-13 correct (60-69%): Um…. are you sure you were paying attention? This is an open-Guide quiz, after all!

11 or fewer correct (0-59%): You are probably “a pleasure to have in class” but you need to study the Guide some more!
