NCAA eligibility rules have changed:

The requirements are changing for students who enroll full time at an NCAA Division I school after August 1, 2016.   Students must meet ALL the following requirements:

  • Complete 16 core courses & check with your counselor to be sure your Shorewood/Shorecrest courses have been NCAA approved:
    • Four years of English
    • Three years of Math (Algebra 1 and higher)
    • Two years of Science
    • One additional year of English, Math or Science
    • Two years of Social Studies
    • Four additional years of courses from above categories, or and/or World Language (Example: 3 years of Spanish and 1 extra year of Social Studies]
  • Complete 10 core courses, including seven in English, Math or Science, before the seventh semester. Once students begin their seventh semester, they may not repeat or replace any of those 10 courses to improve their core-course GPA.
  • Earn at least a 2.3 GPA in their core courses.
  • Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score matching their core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale, which balances test score and core-course GPA. If students have a low test score, they need a higher core-course GPA to be eligible. If they have a low core-course GPA, they need a higher test score to be eligible.

When Should Students Register?

Students may register at any time, but we recommend during their sophomore year. The registration website is www.eligibilitycenter.org. The NCAA Eligibility Center will evaluate a student’s academic credentials once this information has been received, and the student has had his/her status requested by an NCAA member institution:

 Completed online registration;

 Fee payment;

 SAT and/or ACT test score on file from the respective testing agency; and

 Transcript(s) from all schools or programs attended.

Be sure to let your School Counselor know that you are a college-bound athlete so that we can help you with your planning and NCAA eligibility!
