Cliff Gillies Award – The SW Coaches and Administration have selected two seniors for this coveted State WIAA award. This honor is awarded to two senior athletes at each school across the state that have demonstrated school and athletic team leadership, solid academics and are role models involved in a positive way throughout the school. The 2015-2016 selections are:  Kyle Berquist and Sarah Cornell-Maier.  We are proud to announce our selections, which you will also see in the paper shortly with all of the other statewide school selections.  GO TBIRDS!

 Season Highlights

Sasha Gaeth SW Tennis player is the Herald Athlete of the Week for the week of April 4th– 9th

4/6    Will Smith, SW Baseball, pitches a no hitter against Shorecrest

4/9    Ronnie Gary, SW Track, broke the SW High Jump Record from 1988 with a jump of 6’8″ at the Birger Solberg Invitational, then broke his own new record at the Shoreline Invitational on 4/30 with a jump of 6’10”.

4/30 Devan Kirk is the 3A State leader in the 800m run

5/9   Ronnie Gary is the WIAA Athlete of the Week for his track accomplishments

5/16 Devan Kirk is the WIAA Athlete of the Week and broke the school record in the 800 by over a second. He also broke the Wesco South Meet record.

The new Wesco South Track Champions include:
Skylar Widman 100m
Chris Diaz 110m hurdles
Skylar Widman 200m
Devan Kirk 800m (now #2 ranked junior in the nation!)
4x100m Relay of Camden Correos, Joseph Williamson, Skylar Widman, and Chris Diaz

Shorewood Boys Track place second at Districts

Shorewood Freshman Tennis player is the new Wesco South Singles Champion – Sasha Gaeth. Elli Allen Hatch and Emily Wright placed second in Doubles  At Districts Sasha was the new District Singles Champion and Elli Allen Hatch and Emily Wright placed second in Doubles, combined they won the District I Championship as a team.

SW Boys Golf placed 3rd in 3A WESCO; Bradley Wong is headed to State

SW Girls Golf placed 3rd in 3A WESCO; Hannah Owen, Maria Babcock and Michelle Lu are headed to State

Interested in College Sports?

NCAA eligibility rules have changed:

The requirements are changing for students who enroll full time at an NCAA Division I school after August 1, 2016.   Students must meet ALL the following requirements:

  • Complete 16 core courses & check with your counselor to be sure your Shorewood/Shorecrest courses have been NCAA approved:
    • Four years of English
    • Three years of Math (Algebra 1 and higher)
    • Two years of Science
    • One additional year of English, Math or Science
    • Two years of Social Studies
    • Four additional years of courses from above categories, or and/or World Language (Example: 3 years of Spanish and 1 extra year of Social Studies]
  • Complete 10 core courses, including seven in English, Math or Science, before the seventh semester. Once students begin their seventh semester, they may not repeat or replace any of those 10 courses to improve their core-course GPA.
  • Earn at least a 2.3 GPA in their core courses.
  • Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score matching their core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale, which balances test score and core-course GPA. If students have a low test score, they need a higher core-course GPA to be eligible. If they have a low core-course GPA, they need a higher test score to be eligible.

When Should Students Register?

Students may register at any time, but we recommend during their sophomore year. The registration website is www.eligibilitycenter.org. The NCAA Eligibility Center will evaluate a student’s academic credentials once this information has been received, and the student has had his/her status requested by an NCAA member institution:

 Completed online registration;

 Fee payment;

 SAT and/or ACT test score on file from the respective testing agency; and

 Transcript(s) from all schools or programs attended.

Be sure to let your School Counselor know that you are a college-bound athlete so that we can help you with your planning and NCAA eligibility!
